Overview of Position
Since 1948, ACADEMY has been Specializing in Apartment House Mailbox Systems, both Audio and Video Intercom Systems, Access Control Systems, CCTV Systems and Custom Engraved Signage and Name-tags.
The Lead Field Technician role requires a deep working knowledge of low voltage electrical work, relay logic, circuit logic, access control, and structured cabling. The Lead Field Technician will be working with Academy Intercom’s Technical and Project Management Team to handle new installations of Academy Intercom products as well as technical troubleshooting of Academy Intercom products. In addition to the necessary technical and field experience, this role requires great people skills and the ability to interface with low voltage/access control installers, building staff, tenants, and property managers.
Attention to detail, organizational skills, consistent ability to document interactions with installers, and willingness to learn new competencies is a must. Effective communication via phone/email and web interface is also critical to the success of this position. This is a field position, with a small amount of office work.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Be responsible for installation and repair of our products in the field (Intercom, Camera & Access Control Systems)
- Use standards, industry best practices, and our product documentation to ensure a high level of excellence
- Document, photograph, and communicate effectively all relevant information about a site, using our standard operating procedures and web based tools
- Work with the Service and Installation Teams to develop better processes and documentation
- Provide first contact support to tenants, building staff, and property managers while on site
- Assist the Installation team and Technical Managers as needed in training, troubleshooting, and complex installation design
- Assist other teams on hardware related office issues as directed
Qualifications and skills
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience, with at least 1 year in a foreman or lead role, in access control, intercom, and/or alarm low voltage as part of a total 4+ years of work experience with transferable skills (construction, telecom, cable installer, etc.)
- Use of hand tools, both general and specialist for low voltage
- Low torque power tools, minor construction tasks, such as penetrations
- Crimpers and terminators, circuit, relay, and prototyping logic
- Multimeters, testers, and certifiers
- Responsiveness to calls and emails
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Read technical diagrams
- Follow instructions – find and read manuals
- Ability to write/fill out detailed reports on each site including pictures
- Ability to learn new competencies and a good attitude towards teaching others is critical
- Ability to use web-based software tools such as Field Promax
- Ability to lift up to 75lbs and stand for long periods of time
- Valid drivers license
- Any related certifications or formal education is a plus, but not a substitute for experience
- Knowledge of technical Spanish and/or Mandarin/Cantonese Chinese is also a plus
